One of IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin’s former victims Gabriel Rosado thinks that IBF 160lb champion David Lemieux (34-2, 31 KOs) needs to brawl with Golovkin from the moment their fight begins on October 17th, because he feels this is the only way that Lemieux has a chance of winning the fight.
Rosado believes that Lemieux needs to stick with what brought him to the big show against Golovkin, and that’s for him to brawl. In Rosado’s mind, if Lemieux tries to change his fighting style to become a boxer instead of a puncher in the Golovkin fight, he’ll wind up getting knocked out by him.
Rosado is someone who is guilty of changing his own fighting style when he fought Golovkin in January 2013. Instead of looking to slug with the Kazakhstan fighter, Rosado went in there and ran around the ring for most of the first six rounds. Golovkin then stopped Rosado in the 7th round after hurting him in the previous round.
Rosado was bloody and battered by the time he stopped running in the 5th round and tried to exchange with him. There was no way that Rosado could match Golovkin’s power at that point because he was so tired from running around the ring.
“He [Lemieux] has to fight his fight. I think the biggest mistake he can do is to try and switch up,” Rosado said to Fighthype. “You got to do what got you there and just brawl, because that’s what he’s good at. He’s good at brawling. I think it’s a fight where you have to go in there and try and take Triple G’s head off because if you don’t he’s going to take yours off. I still favor Triple G in this fight,” Rosado said.
I think Lemieux realizes that he’s going to need to go in there and slug with Golovkin, because he doesn’t have the legs to move around the ring and box him. You have to have an entirely different body type to move for 12 rounds than the one that Lemieux has. I think he’s smart enough to realize what he’s not. If Lemieux is being given advantage by the likes of Bernard Hopkins and Oscar De La Hoya for him to box Golovkin, then I think he needs to forget that advice when he faces him on October 17th on HBO PPV at Madison Square Garden in New York.
