Stoke light welterweight, Kieron McLaren, admits to being inspired by his stablemates’ recent title achievements.
The undefeated prospect fights out of the Fight Factory, in Longton, Stoke-On-Trent, alongside Midlands Area Champion Rob Hunt and Andy Keates. The duo’s success , welterweight and light welterweight champions respectively, is something McLaren is hoping to emulate in the not too distant future.
“Having two stablemates that have got titles spurs you on and makes you want to achieve what they have,” McLaren told www.uko-boxing.com. “I look at what they’ve done and want to do the same.
“They’re both good lads and I’m happy for them. I’m hoping I’ll be able to add a belt to the gym soon too.”
The 22 year-old is back in action this weekend as he takes on Birmingham veteran, Jason Nesbitt, over six two-minute rounds at Walsall FC’s Banks’s Stadium.
McLaren is on the undercard of Black Country Boxing and Hatton Promotions’ ‘Fast & Fierce’ show.
“Training has going spot on,” he added. “I wouldn’t change anything. They have been hard, grilling sessions but that’s what you need to prepare properly.
“I can’t wait to get back in there. Jason is a very awkward boxer and I know if I’m not switched on he will capitalise. I was ringside when he fought my cousin, Josh, and I’ve seen him at plenty of shows. It’s another test for me but one I’ll be ready for.”
Stablemate Andy Keates is also in action as he warms up for his English Title tilt against Kevin Hooper in November. The Leek fighter takes on Matt Seawight over 4×3’s.
The show is headlined by Steven Pearce, who takes on Arvydas Trizno over 6×3’s as he too prepares for an English Title shot – against Adam Little in December.
A trio of Ricky Hatton trained fighters are also in action.
Wednesbury welterweight, Sam Evans debuts against Lavia’s Zaurs Sadihovs whilst fellow welterweight debutant, Market Harborough’s Reuben Arrowsmith, takes on Halesowen-based scrapper, Kevin Macauley. Both fights are 4×3’s.
Undefeated Hatton prospect – Romford light welterweight, Anthony Upton – takes on Melksham’s Liam Richards over 8×3’s.
Undefeated Old Hill lightweight, Manny Zaber, completes the line-up as he takes on Swindon’s Joe Beeden. Walsall cruiserweight, Chris Keane, no longer features.
Tickets, priced at £30 and £60 Ringside, are available by calling the Walsall FC Box Office on 01922 651 414/416 or 07825 173 119.
