Floyd Mayweather Jr. has offered to help former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey to help her improve her striking ability for her matches in the UFC. Rousey, 29, has been stopped in two consecutive fights due to her poor stand-up game. She needs help, because she’s getting beaten repeatedly at the level she’s fighting sat now.
“I’ll work with her if she’s willing to work with me,” Mayweather said to TMZ.com about wanting to help Rousey.
It’s doubtful that Rousey can be improved enough for her to beat the top fighters in the UFC. There’s so much to learn, and it takes a long time. The time for Rousey to have learned the stand-up skills were years ago, not now. Rousey could be helped by having Mayweather train her.
It’s unclear how much time Mayweather would have to assist her. He’s a pretty busy person with his traveling and promotional duties. He’s probably not going to be able to assist her on a daily basis for a long period of time so that she can improve on the many holes she has in her game.
With Floyd being wealthy, he would be helping Rousey for the heck of it. The only way that I can see Mayweather helping Rousey is if he can have someone from his team do most if not all of his training for her. That’s not a bad thing necessarily, because Mayweather has plenty of people that can teach Rousey good boxing skills. I don’t think she doesn’t necessarily need Mayweather to do all the training. Mayweather’s father could do a good job with Rousey.
The bad news about Rousey is that for her to get the results she needs from training with Mayweather on her boxing skills, it would likely take a long period of time for her to learn. She would be a novice beginner due to her rudimentary skills. When you have a beginner like Rousey, it’s going to take many years for her to be taught all that she needs to know about the standup game. I’m not sure if she’s got the motivation to stick it out that long.
