Paulie Malignaggi says UFC star Conor McGregor has a legion of idiot fans who believe that he can beat any boxer inside a boxing ring. Mallignaggi thinks the fans have clue at all. He’d like to face McGregor and whip him for the kind of money that UFC president Dana White recently offered to Floyd Mayweather Jr. for a fight against McGregor. White offered Mayweather $25 million.
Malignaggi says he would take one-fifth of that money and beat McGregor. Of course, there’s no interest on McGregor’s part to fight Malignaggi, who isn’t a big star in boxing. If Malignaggi was to get a big payday against McGregor, the fight might not make money, because Malignaggi wouldn’t be a big enough name to attract a lot of fans to purchase a fight between him and McGregor on PPV.
Malignaggi said this to Fighthype.com about Mayweather and McGregor:
“I’m serious. That’s free money,” said Malignaggi about a fight between him and Conor McGregor. “That guy boxing, come on. That’s like putting me on a golf course with Tiger Woods. It’s not going to happen. It’s all just hearsay. The guy [McGregor] has a legion of fans. Not all of them are idiots, but he’s got a lot of idiots too. They’ll get excited about him talking about boxing. There are enough idiots out there that will actually think he can win a fight against any boxer, let alone Mayweather. So everything that comes out of his mouth is going to generate hype. So I’m going to bite off some of this hype too. That’s the Mayweather way. He’s not going to take a pay cut. Why would he take a pay cut? That fight is the easiest of Mayweather’s career. He can stop McGregor inside six or seven rounds in a boxing match. In reality, you’ve got to go to camp to try and get in shape, and you’ve got to make weight. t 40-years-old, it doesn’t come very easy to do it. That’s where the money has to be working for Floyd. He’s very comfortable. He’s living very comfortable. You have to make the money worth it for Floyd. It’s not about it being an easy fight. He can take $25 million. He can take a pay cut. It’s not just about him getting insie the ring and doing the fight, because of course, it’s easy money. That’s free money. But getting in shape at that age, it’s not the same as getting in shape at 5-years-old. I would take even $5 million and Conor can take $45 and after I beat his [expletive]. I’ll take the upper hand on the rematch. That is a free money.”
